Back in 1996, the boyfriend I had, had a motorcycle. His name was Devin, I can’t for the life of me remember his last name. [wouldn’t tell anyway, but doesn’t it bug you sometimes when someone so important for months no longer has a remembered last name?]
So we went on a ride one fine Saturday. I was living in California at the time, Sacramento to be exact, so we took off toward Clear Lake, meandering around the countryside. While the maps say it only takes 2 hours…they must be flying with the crows, for us, it was longer than that.
Now, when we started the ride, it had been a LONG time since I was on a bike. I had on shorts, tennis shoes and some shirt. I asked if this was ok. He said ‘yes’.
We had ridden about 2 hrs when we got off the bike to stretch. When I got off the back, the inside of my left leg hit the exhaust pipe. One thing about me, when I am REALLY in pain, I don’t cry. I didn’t cry. OH.MY.GOSH. it hurt. Devin acted like nothing was wrong. It was red, it was painful!!! However, I didn’t know squat about exhaust pipe burns, I figured it would get better. I wasn’t sure if we should go back or not, Devin said we should go on. I got back on the bike, the skin stretching was a killer. 45 minutes later, I told him I was in too much pain and he needs to take me home.
So…instead of a 2 hr ride back, now it was a 3 hr ride back. We got back, and by now, there was a huge blister on my leg. Devin says some stupid remark, ‘i didn’t know how bad it was’. Whatever you loser. I told him good bye and don’t bother calling me again. [never saw him again].
I immediately started putting my Comfrey Ointment on it. I called the doctors office on Monday. They said to come in. I asked ‘why’? She said, ‘because we need to clean it and break the blister’. It was 3 inches long and about 1.5 inches wide?, and about 1.25 inches high. I said, ‘oh, I can do that’. She asked if there was dirt in it. I said yes, a speck. She said I had to come in to get a tetanus shot. I made the appointment.
Sooo, being the do-it-myselfer that I am, I popped the blister and cleaned it. Ah, you know what blisters do, right? They PROTECT the skin underneath. Yeah, that was reopening the wound again it felt like.
Once I had it all clean, I put my Comfrey Ointment on one of those huge bandages and put it on my wound. I went in on Monday or Tuesday to get the shot. That would have made it 3 or 4 days of Comfrey Ointment application. She looked at my leg and said…’I don’t know what you’re doing, but keep it up, I’ve never seen a 3rd degree burn look so good’. Oh yeah, I had a 3rd degree burn! WOO HOO! I’ve never had a burn that badly before. I told her I was using my Comfrey Ointment. She said, ‘whatever, it looks great’.
She said I would have to come back in in x amount of days. I asked ‘why’? She said, ‘because we have to scrub the new skin off’. HUH???!!!! You know what I said huh?
‘Oh I can do it myself’. She said when new skin starts forming, to scrub it off. HAH! Little did I know. I kept applying my Comfrey Ointment. It was weird, I could see the layers of skin, all the stuff inside. And I could SEE the Comfrey Ointment healing the wound. I could see it start to heal from deep within, to the outside.
So however long after, when it did heal up and new skin was forming over the wound, I had to scrub it off. Now I’m sure most of you all know what it feels like when water hits a burn/burned area. So yeah, I had to take showers right? I had to go to work. And after the shower, I got a dry wash cloth, sat on the toilet, and scrubbed the skin off. I bawled. Sobbed and sobbed. I couldn’t imagine a stranger doing that to me.
I did this for about 6 times. I CLEARLY remember the last time. I sat on the toilet and after I scrubbed it off, I told God, ‘this hurts too much, I can’t do it anymore’. So that was it. I didn’t do it again. All this time of scrubbing, I was applying my Skn Saver™. Time and again it had proven itself to be a great scar appearance remover. [FDA says whatever you say on social media is marketing, so I’m being careful]
So, I kept applying the Skn Savr™ and using bandages less and less.
Folks, there was NO puckering, NO scarring. Zip. Nada. None. There was a discoloration in that area for several years afterward. However I would apply Skn Savr™ to it especially the first summer. After that, it was as I remembered too. After a few years, I figured, fine, if it was discolored, oh well.
Since about 2003 there has been no discoloration, nothing. You’ll see by the photos. Absolutely everyone I’ve spoken with about this, who has had a motorcycle exhaust pipe burn, all have scars and puckering. Not me!
