I just got back from Natural Expo West trade show in Anaheim. I find people need to be educated on seabuckthorn oils, so I am here to set the record straight. Can also be spelled sea buckthorn, with a space.
Sea buckthorn is a VEGETABLE oil, it is NOT an essential oil. To call it an essential oil means that person knows nothing about essential oils. Essential oils are volatile. That means they can catch fire easily. Veggie oils can have a wick stuck in them to supply oil for the fire that is lit on the end of the wick, but there’s no volatile oils in them. Essential oils have an aroma, veggie oils may, but they are not known for their aroma. People don’t use them for an aroma profile only.
There are two different kinds of oils that come from this bush. One is seabuckthorn [sbt] seed oil and one is sbt berry [or pulp] oil. Depending on what a person is using it for, is the deciding factor on which is better.
Here is a link to compare what is in the two oils: Compare sbt oils there is also a section on that chart that tells what ingesting the seed oil has done for me. Since about Sept 2012, I have been taking .5 a tsp in the last swallow of juice in the a.m. and p.m. About 3 months ago, I have been taking it in the p.m. only, right before bed. In the last swallow of Pure Essence Labs calcium drink [which stops my heart palps]. This drink mix is on the website Blue Sage Naturals Specials
Sbt berry oil can be expressed in several ways. The best method is through super critical extraction, or CO2, which is the coldest of the cold and purest of the pure. There is also extraction thru centrifuge and just pressing the berries.
Seed oil is preferably extracted thru CO2 extraction. If I were to use one oil, I would pick the sea buckthorn seed oil. Hands down. It can be used for SO MANY things in so many ways, it’s the preferred oil by manufacturers and consumers alike. It will absorb UV rays [but don’t rely on it alone, it’s not a sunscreen like you purchase in the store], it is antifungal, antibacterial, antimicrobial [encompasses microbes which is also bacteria, so it’s kind of redundant to put antimicrobial, however some people only see that word, so I’m including it].
Berry oil is higher in palmitoleic acid, omega 7 than the seabuckthorn seed oil, however the seed oil DOES INDEED have omega 7 in it.
People all over the net are trying to say the seed oil is inferior. It is not. I brought the sea buckthorn seed oil to the USA and it was the first one I imported. I used it for a yeast infection I had that mutated. I used it internally and externally. In two days, that’s TWO DAYS, the yeast infection was gone. SBT SEED oil gets rid of my joint pain, cankers, acid stomach, improved my eyesight, reduced my chloresterol [both verified by my docs], keeps me regular and keeps eczema at bay. It also got rid of the rosacea I had, yes, HAD. I had it twice.
My theory as to why some companies are denigrating the sbt seed is because it’s more expensive than the berry, and this, if they sell you the berry and say it’s the best, they are making a much higher profit. As to why people are, it’s because they don’t know squat and follow whatever information they want too.
Berry oil IS a good oil. Internally. Externally it will stain the skin if you are light complected. If you are dark, it will give you an awesome glow. You can mix it with another oil to make it less dark and to make it last longer. Ditto for the seed oil. And the efficacy will still be great. 50/50.
I don’t sell sbt seed or berry oil for ingestion. I personally DO ingest them, because they are so beneficial for my body. However without Eff Dee A approval I can’t, and don’t, sell them for ingestion. I am a huge proponent for each of us taking charge of our own health and that of our families, so you choose what you want to do.
The Chinese take 1-500mg capsule, which equates to 1/8th teaspoon, four times a day. Back when I sold caps, one woman told me she took one seed oil capsule a day and her joint pain was gone.
SOME say ‘studies done’ show omega 7, one of the essential fatty acids in seabuckthorn oils, provides the building blocks for the enzymes that control the burning of fat. HOWEVER, I’ve been taking it internally for years and I see no difference. Never did.
It does help with inflammation. There are higher amounts of omega 7 in berry oil than seed oil. However, the seed oil, with the lower amount of omega-7, is what has taken joint pain away from me and the others that write in to tell me about their experiences.
Sea buckthorn also has omega 5 in it. Conjugated linolenic acid [CLnA] helps repair damaged cells, controls and regulates glucose transport at the cell membrane level and has a significant effect on the human electromagnetic field, increasing it by as much as tenfold [40-50 feet] [I’ve gotta read up on that one, found it on the web, if you find something on it, please put it in the comments below]
